To this day, one experience stands as a marker for me. I remember it as if it just happened even though it was years ago.
I was at a spiritual healing retreat in Sedona, Arizona, learning energy work and releasing blocks to living a life I love. 🏜️🌵
During a lunch break, I found a 2-inch seed pod that was cracked open. I also found a seashell 🐚 that was split in half revealing inner twists and curves that were intricate and amazing.
I scooped them both up, and when I returned to class, I walked up to my teacher. 👨🏫🦉 Holding out the seed pod and seashell I said, “These are for you. You plant seeds in others so we can come to know ourselves. And just as this shell is broken open to reveal an inner terrain, that’s what you see in each of us, even when we don’t see it for ourselves. Thank you.”
He looked up at me as his face twisted with puzzled curiosity and said, “Who are you?”
The answer roared forth, waking my whole being. “LOVE.”
I knew it then as deeply as I do now.
I’m LOVE. 💜💖
You are too.
You’re love even when you forget.
You’re love when others don’t see or recognize you. (It’s not their job to see you, it’s yours.)
You’re love whether you remember it, believe it, live it, or not.
YOU ARE LOVE!
As powerful as that is, knowing that you’re love won’t always stop your feelings from getting hurt. 😱 It won’t make other people change or even make all your problems go away.
What it will do is create a solid foundation for you to return to when you forget and get caught up in pain. Returning to love may take longer on some days than others, but you can make it into a practice, a way of life. 🌟🌄
Knowing that YOU ARE LOVE is self-knowledge.
But so often we learn about love by what we’re shown in our family of origin 💑👪 – by love’s presence or absence. We can mistakenly learn that manipulation and control is strength and love. This ends up being the filter through which we see ourselves, others, and the world. That is … until we bring consciousness to it.
No doubt about it, this world is a world of insanity. That’s always been true. And right now the world has a LOT coming up to be healed. The stories of pain and struggle need to be shared, heard, and met so that healing can take place. The healing process is not glamorous and can be super messy, but it’s essential. 🌠💫✨
So in this time of messy, bring this gentle reminder of loving kindness into your days:
- You are love 🤟🏽
- You don’t have all the answers 🙋
- Clarity almost always begins with confusion 🔍
Accepting that you don’t know everything is a beautifully surrendered way to live.
As author and podcaster Krista Tippett explained in her interview The Art of Generous Listening,
“There are so many things we’re fighting about and we’re fearful about. The space you create absolutely limits or expands what is possible … what will happen. There is a difference between creating a space with a welcome and an ethos or just opening the door so that anything can happen.”
Trust the process. If you accept confusion, you’ll free yourself from suffering.
In my past, I knew Love through fear … and that wasn’t Love.
You have too.
Be gentle and kind with yourself as you navigate the pain that’s coming up for you and the world to heal. 👼⚕️🌐
The wonderful philosopher, John O’Donohue shared this poem in his 2005 interview,
May there be kindness in your gaze when you look within.
May you never place walls between the light and yourself.
May your angel free you from the prisons of guilt, fear, disappointment and despair.
May you allow the wild beauty of the invisible world to gather you, mind you, and embrace you in belonging.
You are pure awesome sauce and it is my honor to help you remember and to live it! 🤗❤️🥰
