Discomfort and Happiness are NOT the Same Thing (But That’s Actually Ok)

Anyone who tells you they’ve discovered the only 3 steps you’ll ever need to heal all your trauma and never feel triggered again (*insert jazz hands here*) is lying to you.

It’s not that those 3 steps can’t help you.

It’s that, most often, the thing you need to do (i.e. face the core pain) is the thing your ego has done EVERYTHING it can to keep you from touching. Including admitting it’s even a problem.

So while those 3 steps may seem enticing and can even get you a shift every now and again, if they don’t also make you uncomfortable, piss you off, or leave you sobbing on the bathroom floor at least once, chances are, they’re not actually helping you fully heal.

(And, yes, I know that’s not exactly an enticing pitch for this work, but stay with me here because this is important.)

Doing your work is some of THE most uncomfortable work you’ll EVER do.

That’s not a reason not to do it. It’s proof it’s working.

Because if you’ve spent your entire life running from a certain feeling, a version of yourself, or that relationship you’ve never let go of, you have to process those feelings, misunderstandings, traumas, held emotions, or bs lies at some point or they’re stuck inside of you, driving your bus.

Sometimes processing past pain means doing the thing you’re most afraid of (hello, learning to stop abandoning and rejecting yourself).

Sometimes it brings up emotions you’d rather not feel.

But on the other side is a sense of freedom you can’t even imagine feeling right now. A life that’s not controlled by anyone or anything outside of you (including your own thoughts).

It’s not for the faint of heart, but you never have to do it alone.
